Civil orders that restrict behaviour to prevent sexual harm. Breach is a criminal offence.

Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO)

  • Available on conviction or by separate application where necessary to protect the public.
  • Can impose prohibitions (e.g., internet use, contact with children, travel).
  • Duration is set by the court; breach is an offence.

Sexual Risk Order (SRO)

  • For individuals who pose a risk of sexual harm but may not have a conviction.
  • Imposes necessary and proportionate prohibitions to reduce risk.
  • Applied for by police; approved by a court.
