Full Description

A 64-year-old man from Bootle, Merseyside, has been sentenced to six years in prison for a series of depraved sexual offences against a child. Brian Colin McCoy, residing on Sandfield Road, was convicted at Liverpool Crown Court on 30 September 2024, following a thorough investigation by Merseyside Police.

The offences, which involved grooming and assaulting a girl under the age of 13, occurred on multiple occasions across various locations. McCoy was found guilty of meeting a girl under 16 following grooming, assaulting a girl under 13 by touching, three additional counts of assaulting a girl by touching, and causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity. He was also convicted on two counts of failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register, highlighting his prior history as a registered sex offender.

Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh, who led the investigation, described McCoy's actions as 'depraved and predatory', emphasising the immense bravery of the victim in coming forward. 'McCoy put his victim through an unimaginable ordeal,' McVeigh stated. 'Our detectives were determined to unearth all of McCoy’s crimes, and ensure he faced justice for his offending.' The investigation uncovered how McCoy took advantage of the child, seeking out opportunities to abuse her, which has undoubtedly left a long-lasting impact.

The case underscores Merseyside Police's commitment to protecting children from sexual abuse, with specialist officers ensuring comprehensive support for victims. McCoy's sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences for those who exploit the vulnerable, as reported by Merseyside Police on their official website.
