A shocking early morning attack occurred on 19 March 2022, when John Sommerville Taylor Horne, aged 39, from Broadacre Place in Fareham, raped and assaulted a woman on a footbridge crossing Western Way near Fareham train station. Horne was arrested and charged with rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on 25 April 2022, where he entered guilty pleas to both counts. Following his admission, Horne was remanded in custody. The sentencing hearing was scheduled for 25 May 2022, marking the culmination of the police efforts to hold him accountable for this violent sexual offence.
