Full Description

A registered sex offender from Carlisle, David Wilson, has been imprisoned for producing indecent images of children. The 52-year-old was arrested in July 2024 following a police investigation that uncovered more than 60 illicit files on his electronic devices.

Wilson, who was already subject to monitoring as a registered sex offender, employed sophisticated methods to conceal his criminal behaviour. He utilised the dark web and virtual private networks (VPNs) to access and download the prohibited material, demonstrating significant efforts to evade detection. Officers from Cumbria Police's Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) department conducted the probe, highlighting their commitment to overseeing individuals with prior convictions for sexual offences.

At Carlisle Crown Court, Wilson was sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment. In addition to the custodial term, he was subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, designed to restrict his future activities and protect the public from potential harm. The sentencing reflects the severity of the offences and the ongoing risk posed by Wilson.

Detective Constable Anna Ritson, from Cumbria's MOSOVO department, commented on the case: "Wilson is a dangerous offender, and it is evident that he went to significant efforts to hide his offending." She further emphasised the department's role: "MOSOVO officers play a vital role in safeguarding communities by rigorously managing registered sex offenders, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and holding individuals accountable for their actions. We take a zero-tolerance approach against anyone found breaching the terms of their requirements or committing any further offences."

This case, reported by Hits Radio Cumbria on 3rd December 2025, underscores the persistent challenges in monitoring and preventing child sexual exploitation in the UK. Cumbria Police continue to prioritise such investigations to maintain community safety.
