Offence Summary

Abdul Kahar groomed a 15-year-old girl online by posing as a 17-year-old boy, picked her up, gave her alcohol, and then raped and sexually assaulted her in his vehicle. He pleaded guilty to multiple sexual offences and will be sentenced in February 2026.

Full Description

On 28th July 2025, Abdul Kahar, a 41-year-old man from Anthony Road, Alum Rock, groomed a vulnerable 15-year-old girl online via Snapchat, where he posed as a 17-year-old boy named 'Jay'. After building a rapport over a period of time, the girl agreed to meet him, and Kahar picked her up in his vehicle.

Once in the vehicle, Kahar provided the girl with alcohol before subjecting her to a brutal attack. He raped her twice and sexually assaulted her on four separate occasions during the incident. Additionally, he committed non-fatal intentional strangulation against her. The assault took place in the Druids Heath area of Birmingham.

Following the attack, Kahar abandoned the girl at the roadside. Displaying remarkable bravery, the 15-year-old called the police and used a code phrase she had learned from TikTok—'ordering a pizza'—to discreetly signal that she was in danger and needed help. The police call handler immediately recognised the significance of the phrase and dispatched officers to her location without delay.

The girl was able to provide the police with a description of Kahar's vehicle and its registration details, which facilitated his swift arrest. Kahar had a prior conviction, as evidenced by his breach of a sexual harm prevention order during this incident.

On 1st December 2025, Kahar appeared at Birmingham Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to two charges of raping a female under 16, four charges of sexually assaulting a female over 13, non-fatal intentional strangulation, and breaching a sexual harm prevention order. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on 9th February 2026.

Detective Constable Lauren Campbell, from West Midlands Police’s Complex Child Abuse Investigation team, commented on the case: “Kahar posed as a 17-year-old boy on Snapchat, groomed a vulnerable 15-year-old girl online for a period of time before she agreed to meet up with him. He then raped and sexually assaulted her in his car.” She further praised the girl's courage and the call handler's quick thinking: “I want to praise the brave actions of the girl and also praise the call handler for having the foresight to understand this was a call for help from someone who was vulnerable and in danger.”

This case highlights the dangers of online grooming and the effectiveness of community awareness initiatives, such as the TikTok code phrase, in aiding victims to seek help. The incident was reported by Hits Radio Birmingham on 7th December 2025, based on details from West Midlands Police.
