Offence Summary

A 36-year-old man from Wiltshire was jailed after pleading guilty to child sex offences and possession of Class A drugs.

Full Description

Christopher Saunders-Pope, a 36-year-old man from Wilton in Wiltshire, was sentenced to three years and four months' imprisonment at Swindon Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to a series of child sex offences and possession of Class A drugs.

Saunders-Pope was arrested by the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) in March 2024 after he communicated online with what he believed to be a teenage boy, intending to sexually abuse him. On the day of his arrest, he had travelled with the intention of carrying out the abuse but was taken into custody before any harm could occur.

At a hearing in April, Saunders-Pope admitted three counts of making indecent images of children, possessing extreme pornographic images, and possession of cocaine. In addition to the custodial sentence, the judge imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective Inspector David Wells of SWROCU stated: "When we arrested Saunders-Pope, he had travelled that day having made plans to abuse a young boy. Instead, he was taken into custody and prevented from causing the harm he intended."

The case was prosecuted by authorities in England and formed part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend individuals seeking to abuse or exploit children online.
