Offence Summary

Hamza Ali was involved in abducting a 13-year-old girl from east London, trafficking her to Ipswich, and sexually assaulting her as part of a four-day exploitation ordeal.

Full Description

Hamza Ali, 39, from Chilford Road, Waltham Forest, was convicted alongside two other east London men at Norwich Crown Court for their roles in abducting a 13-year-old girl and subjecting her to sexual abuse in Ipswich. The events unfolded in early 2013, with the group exploiting the girl's vulnerability over four days until her rescue by police.

The court details revealed that Ali, Suran Uddin, and Mohammed Sheikh persuaded the girl, described as naive and from a troubled family, to enter their van. They transported her to a house in Chevallier Street, Ipswich, where they took turns abusing her, treating her 'like a piece of meat'. Ali was convicted of sexual assault and conspiracy to traffic in the UK.

  • The abduction began on the streets of east London, targeting the girl's youth.
  • In Ipswich, the men passed her among themselves for sexual purposes.
  • The judge highlighted the lack of refuge and the intent to exploit her sexually.

Addressing the men, Judge Nicholas Coleman said: 'She was taken to a town she'd never visited, a house she never been to, in the company of men she had never met.' He condemned their actions, noting the girl was left traumatised. Lindsay Cox, mitigating for Ali, pointed out that Ali was married and that the girl appeared older than her age with a history of engaging with strangers.

Ali was sentenced to five years in prison and added to the sex offenders register, with potential deportation to Somalia looming. The case, covered by the BBC on 27 February 2013, underscores the conspiracy to traffic a minor for sexual exploitation and the severe sentences imposed.
