Full Description

David Nicholas Wilson, a 36-year-old man from King's Lynn, Norfolk, was identified as a serial paedophile who targeted and abused 52 young boys online. Posing as young girls on social media and messaging platforms, Wilson manipulated his victims into sending him explicit photographs and videos of themselves, and in some instances, coerced them into performing sexual acts on others. His methods included encouragement, threats, and blackmail, exploiting the vulnerability of the children to terrorise and control them.

Wilson pleaded guilty to 96 offences, including causing children to engage in sexual activity and blackmail. The offences came to light through investigations that uncovered the extent of his predatory behaviour, which spanned multiple victims across various locations. On 10 February 2021, at Ipswich Crown Court, he was sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment, with an additional 8 years on extended licence. However, the Solicitor General, Rt Hon Lucy Frazer QC MP, deemed the sentence unduly lenient and referred the case to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.

On 27 May 2021, the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the referral, increasing Wilson's custodial sentence to 28 years, while maintaining the 8-year extended licence period. This decision was announced by the Attorney General's Office, highlighting the severity of Wilson's actions and the need for appropriate punishment to reflect the harm caused to over 50 young boys.

Wilson harmed over 50 young boys, abusing, exploiting, and in some cases terrorising them. I am glad that the Court of Appeal has seen fit to increase his sentence, and I hope that this can help bring some closure to his many victims.

— Solicitor General, Rt Hon Lucy Frazer QC MP, following the Court of Appeal hearing on 27 May 2021

The case underscores the dangers of online grooming and sexual exploitation, with Wilson's activities demonstrating a calculated pattern of abuse. Official records from the UK Government website confirm the details of the offences, sentencing, and appeal outcome, published under the 2019 to 2022 Johnson Conservative government.
