Offence Summary

Kurtis George Randall was sentenced to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple sexual offences discovered on his phone during a routine police visit as a registered sex offender.

Full Description

On 17 July 2024, at Teesside Crown Court, 29-year-old Kurtis George Randall from Middlesbrough was sentenced to a total of ten years in prison following his guilty plea to a number of serious sexual offences. The case came to light through the diligent monitoring efforts of Cleveland Police's Management of Sexual and Violent Offender department, which conducts unannounced visits to ensure compliance with sex offender notification requirements.

During a routine visit to Randall's home, officers examined his phone and uncovered evidence linking him to several sexual offences. This intervention not only prevented potential further harm but also led to his immediate arrest. Detective Inspector Richard Hodgkinson, from the department, highlighted the importance of such proactive measures, stating: "Our department will continue a robust approach in monitoring registered sex offenders in the community by carrying out unannounced visits at their home addresses to ensure they are adhering to their sex offender notification requirements and any orders that have been imposed on them, in order to safeguard our communities." He further described the case as "an excellent example of further offending being uncovered during one of these routine visits."

The sentence imposed included 4.5 years of immediate custody, with an additional 5.5 years to be served on extended licence. This structure underscores the court's recognition of the severity of Randall's actions and the ongoing risk he poses. The investigation was thorough, involving collaboration with victims, witnesses, and the Crown Prosecution Service, all of whom contributed to the successful prosecution. Hodgkinson praised the bravery of those involved, noting: "I would like to thank those victims and witnesses involved in this case for their bravery, the investigating officers and the Crown Prosecution Service for their support throughout."

Cleveland Police's commitment to public safety was evident in this operation, which exemplifies how routine oversight can dismantle threats posed by known offenders. The force's actions ensured that Randall's guilty plea resulted in a conviction that protects the community from further offences.
