Offence Summary

Paedophile Darren Rogers was jailed for two years and two months for engaging in sexual communication with underage girls, sharing child abuse images, and possessing extensive collections of indecent photographs of children.

Full Description

Darren Rogers, a 26-year-old from Pontardawe in west Wales, was sentenced to two years and two months' imprisonment at Swansea Crown Court for a series of child sex offences committed between March 6 and July 29. Rogers pleaded guilty to seven counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child, one count of causing a child to watch sexual activity, and one count of distributing a Category C indecent image of a child. His possession of prohibited materials included 72 Category A, 61 Category B, and 95 Category C indecent photographs of children, as well as a prohibited image of a child and an extreme pornographic image involving bestiality.

The investigation by South Wales Police revealed Rogers' online interactions with underage girls, where he engaged in explicit chats and shared abusive content. Residing at Lon Tanyrallt in Alltwen, Rogers' actions demonstrated a clear pattern of grooming and exploitation. The court highlighted the severity of his offences, noting the profound harm caused to vulnerable children through digital means.

In sentencing, Judge Paul Thomas remarked, 'Your guilty pleas reflect the extent of your involvement in these depraved activities, which prey on the innocence of children.' Rogers was required to register as a sex offender for 10 years and was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration, aimed at restricting his access to potential victims and the internet.
