Offence Summary

Jordan David Saunders sent sexual messages and indecent images to a 14-year-old girl on Instagram, breaching his existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison at Southampton Crown Court.

Full Description

An Eastleigh man, Jordan David Saunders, aged 25, from Twyford Road, has been imprisoned for engaging in sexual communication with a child while under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The case, investigated by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, highlights the dangers of online predation and the importance of parental vigilance in the digital age.

The incident began on 4 February 2024, when Saunders initiated contact with a 14-year-old girl via Instagram. According to court proceedings at Southampton Crown Court on 15 August 2024, the messages quickly escalated to a sexual nature. Saunders sent indecent images of himself to the victim, who responded with limited engagement. This behaviour constituted a clear breach of his existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which was in place to restrict such interactions.

The predatory actions were uncovered when the victim's mother discovered the inappropriate messages and promptly contacted the police. Saunders was arrested shortly thereafter and charged with one count of sexual communication with a child and one count of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Trainee Detective Constable Molly Batting, who led the investigation, emphasised the severity of the offence, stating: “Protecting children from exploitation is one of the most important missions that we, the police, have. I am pleased that Saunders has been jailed so that he cannot continue this predatory behaviour online.”

At the sentencing hearing on Thursday, 15 August 2024, Judge [name not specified] imposed a custodial sentence of two years and six months. In addition to his prison term, Saunders was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and subjected to a new Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years. This comprehensive sentencing reflects the court's commitment to safeguarding vulnerable children from online sexual exploitation.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the risks posed by social media platforms, where predators like Saunders exploit popular apps to target minors. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary's swift action in this matter underscores their dedication to tackling child sexual abuse, ensuring that offenders face appropriate consequences.
