Full Description

Michael Addenbrook, a 44-year-old man from Cameron Street in Barrow, Cumbria, faced serious charges related to child sexual abuse material. Between April 6, 2023, and January 5, 2025, he possessed a total of 2,019 indecent images of children, categorised as follows: 595 category A images, which are considered the most severe and depict the worst forms of abuse; 387 category B images; and 1,037 category C images. Additionally, on January 24, 2024, Addenbrook was found in possession of a single prohibited image of a child.

Addenbrook appeared at Preston Crown Court, where he previously pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of a child and one count of possessing a prohibited image. The case came to light following an investigation by Cumbria Police, who discovered the material on his devices. Category A images are classified under UK law as the most explicit and harmful, often involving penetrative sexual activity or sadism, highlighting the gravity of the offences.

The court proceedings underscored the commitment to combating child sexual exploitation in the UK. Addenbrook was scheduled to be sentenced on January 30, 2025, at Preston Crown Court, with expectations of a custodial sentence given the volume and severity of the material. This case reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to identify and prosecute individuals involved in the possession and distribution of such illegal content, protecting vulnerable children from further harm.
