Full Description

A prolific paedophile whose offending spanned five decades has been sentenced to 31 years in prison, likely ensuring he will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Surinder Blah, aged 72, first came to the attention of authorities in 2020 following concerns raised by a man about Blah's behaviour in the 1960s, when Blah was living in Leamington. Warwickshire Police took charge of the investigation, which uncovered a pattern of abuse that continued over many years.

Blah, who later resided in Orchard Way, Uxbridge, initially denied the allegations, dismissing them as a 'malicious allegation'. However, following the initial complaint, two additional survivors came forward, including a woman who reported that Blah had begun abusing her when she was just seven years old. This bravery from the victims led to Blah's arrest at his Uxbridge home in July 2021. During the arrest, officers seized digital devices from the property, which forensic examination later revealed contained extreme pornography and indecent images of children.

In police interviews, Blah continued to deny any wrongdoing. He was subsequently charged with serious offences, including three counts of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, eight counts of indecent assault, six counts of rape, and one count of making indecent photographs of children. The charges reflected the gravity and duration of his predatory behaviour, which had evaded justice for decades until survivors spoke out.

Last week, at Warwick Crown Court, Blah was sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison. The court heard details of the harrowing abuse inflicted on multiple victims over the years. Detective Sergeant Nicola Norris, who led the investigation for Warwickshire Police, highlighted the importance of the survivors' courage in bringing Blah to account, stating that the case demonstrated the value of coming forward, no matter how much time had passed.

The investigation was handled by Warwickshire Police, with appeals now directed towards the Hillingdon area for any additional potential victims. This case underscores the long-term impact of child sexual abuse and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to pursue historical offences.
