Full Description

David Peers, a 71-year-old man from Llay, North Wales, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court for a series of historic sexual offences committed against two teenage girls in the 1980s. The offences came to light following reports from the victims, who were granted lifelong anonymity due to the nature of the abuse.

Peers admitted to nine counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency with a child. The abuse involved engaging in sexual activities with the girls while they were in their school uniforms and taking intimate images of them. These acts took place when the victims were teenagers and had met Peers, exploiting their vulnerability.

On Thursday, 8 January 2026, Peers was jailed for a total of eight years and four months. In addition to the custodial sentence, he was required to register as a sex offender for life, and an indefinite restraining order was imposed to protect the victims. The case was investigated by North Wales Police, with Detective Constable Lisa Reid leading the inquiry.

Detective Constable Lisa Reid commended the victims for their courage in reporting the abuse and providing detailed accounts, which were crucial in securing the conviction. She stated: “I commend both victims in this case for their courage in reporting Peers to police and in providing detailed accounts of the abuse they suffered, which has been vital in securing this conviction. Both victims continue to suffer the impact of his offending in their adult lives.” Reid also emphasised the police's commitment to tackling violence against women and girls, hoping the case would encourage other survivors to come forward.

The conviction serves as a stark reminder that historic sexual offences will be pursued, regardless of the time elapsed since the crimes occurred. North Wales Police highlighted that such investigations remain a priority, ensuring offenders face the full consequences of their actions.
