Offence Summary

Ian Prestleton engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old boy as part of a child sex abuse and prostitution ring in Birmingham.

Full Description

Ian Prestleton, 54, from High Haden Road, Cradley Heath, was convicted of sexual activity with a child and jailed for three years. His involvement was in the exploitation of a vulnerable teenager in Birmingham from 2009 to 2010, prosecuted alongside nine other men at Warwick Crown Court.

The boy, aged 14 and in care, was prostituted by Stephen Kelly after absconding, facing rapes, violence, and public humiliation. Prestleton directly sexually abused the victim, fitting into the ring's pattern of facilitation and assault. The case advanced due to the victim's 2012 complaint after earlier police oversights.

  • Prestleton's guilt was for direct sexual contact with the minor.
  • The trial underscored the group's shared culpability.

Judge Sylvia de Bertadano remarked: 'Each of you in your own way exploited this vulnerable boy.' West Midlands Police, via Assistant Chief Constable Carl Foulkes, acknowledged the 'horrific' crimes and implemented changes post-review. Another victim was identified from Ronald Potter's prior offence.
