Offence Summary

Marcus Woolcock was convicted for his involvement in trafficking and sexually assaulting two teenage girls as part of a Coventry gang that groomed victims online.

Full Description

Marcus Woolcock, 23, was convicted alongside associates in a Coventry gang responsible for the human trafficking and sexual assault of two teenage girls. The group's exploitation tactics involved social media grooming, leading the victims into situations of abuse at parties and car parks after being plied with substances.

The trial at Leamington Justice Centre, spanning six weeks, exposed the systematic nature of the offences, with Woolcock found guilty of one count each of human trafficking and sexual assault. According to the Coventry Observer on 27 January 2017, the gang's actions were part of a broader pattern of child sexual exploitation in the area.

Woolcock was sentenced to two years for human trafficking and two and a half years for sexual assault, to run concurrently, resulting in an effective term of two and a half years. Unlike his co-defendants, he will remain on the Sex Offender Register for five years. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Green emphasised the lasting impact, noting, “I am determined that by working with the Horizon Team we can protect other vulnerable young people.” This conviction contributes to ongoing efforts to safeguard at-risk youth.

  • The use of taxis facilitated the transportation of victims to abuse sites.
  • Victim courage in testifying was pivotal to the case outcome.
  • Multi-agency teams like the Horizon Team played a key role in the investigation.
