Full Description

Claire Semmens, a babysitter from Roath, Cardiff, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court in May 2014 to 16 years in prison after admitting two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent images. She facilitated the rape of a three-year-old boy by handing him over to known paedophile Aaron Hughes, who drugged and assaulted the toddler while Semmens was babysitting. The attacks were filmed by Hughes, and the footage was uncovered during a police check.

Judge Phillip Richards condemned the 'horrendous offences' against the young child, noting the unimaginable nature of the betrayal by a caregiver. Semmens was barred from working with children and placed on the sex offenders register for life. Her actions enabled severe sexual abuse, making her complicit in the depravity.

Wales Online detailed the case as one of the most shocking in Wales, aligning with rising sex offender statistics from the Ministry of Justice, which reported over 4,700 registered offenders by 2018.
