Full Description

A 42-year-old man from the Hemsworth area of Sheffield has been sentenced to over six years in prison for attempting to groom a minor online. Andrew Dalby was arrested by Hertfordshire Police as part of an operation targeting offenders preying on vulnerable children in chat rooms and social media.

Between October 20 and December 10, 2022, officers from the Child Online Safeguarding Team (COST) monitored Dalby's communications with an individual he believed to be a 14-year-old boy. Posing as a 30-year-old doctor from the Sheffield area, Dalby engaged in sexual conversations and offered to meet the 'boy' for a health check. Hertfordshire Police's proactive efforts ensured the safety of potential victims during this sting operation.

Dalby appeared at St Albans Crown Court in August 2023, where he admitted to the charges. The court highlighted the severity of his actions in targeting a child, emphasising the importance of online safety measures. Hertfordshire Police continue to work tirelessly to protect children from such exploitation, as stated in their official reports.
