Offence Summary

Alan Falconer, a convicted sex offender, used grooming tactics to deceive families and gain access to children, breaching his sexual harm prevention order on six occasions. He was jailed for three years and six months following an investigation by Cleveland Police.

Full Description

Alan Falconer, a 58-year-old resident of Billingham, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison after being found guilty of six breaches of a sexual harm prevention order. The convicted sex offender had a history of serious sexual offences against children, including rape, attempted rape, and indecent assault. Despite these prior convictions, Falconer employed grooming tactics to deceive families, allowing him to establish contact with children without disclosing his criminal background.

Concerns were raised with Cleveland Police regarding Falconer's interactions with children, prompting a thorough investigation by the force's Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders Department. The probe revealed that Falconer had been deliberately misleading the families involved to gain unsupervised access to the children. He was arrested on 10 March 2025 and subsequently charged with the breaches.

On 10 April 2025, Falconer appeared in court, where he was convicted and immediately jailed for the violations. The sentencing aimed to protect the community from further harm by this dangerous individual. Detective Constable Niamh Birdsall from Cleveland Police commented on the case, stating: 'I would like to thank the families of the children involved in these matters for coming forward and supporting this police investigation, which has now concluded with Falconer behind bars. Our communities have been protected from any further offending, and a dangerous offender has been jailed. I hope this can now bring some comfort to everyone involved.' The case was reported by Teesside Live, highlighting the importance of vigilance in monitoring sex offenders under prevention orders.
