Offence Summary

Anthony Fowler sexually abused two young boys aged six and ten in the 1990s, subjecting them to abhorrent acts that caused long-term trauma. He was jailed for 21 years following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police after one victim came forward decades later.

Full Description

Anthony Fowler, a 74-year-old resident of Archway in London, was convicted of sexually abusing two young boys in the 1990s. The offences, described as 'abhorrent' by investigators, involved subjecting the victims, aged six and ten at the time, to severe sexual abuse that left lasting psychological scars.

The case came to light three decades after the crimes occurred when one of the victims bravely came forward. The survivor had endured flashbacks, multiple suicide attempts, and continued bed-wetting as a result of the trauma inflicted by Fowler. Detective Constable Jayne Jones, from the Metropolitan Police's Child Abuse Investigation Team based in Holborn, led the investigation that ultimately brought Fowler to justice.

Fowler was sentenced to 21 years in prison at a court in London, marking a significant outcome in the pursuit of accountability for historical child sex offences. The case was part of a series of investigations by DC Jones that exposed some of London's most dangerous paedophiles, earning her the national Detective of the Year award from the Police Federation at their annual conference in Birmingham.

Colleagues praised the thoroughness of the investigation, highlighting how it addressed the 'darkest of human behaviour' while making a profound difference in the victims' lives. The Metropolitan Police's commitment to pursuing such cases, even after many years, underscores their dedication to protecting children and supporting survivors of sexual exploitation.
