Offence Summary

Sorosh Amini, a 21-year-old man, raped a 13-year-old schoolgirl in an alleyway near Croydon shopping centre after following her and making her fearful. He was convicted of rape and sexual assault and sentenced to seven years in prison.

Full Description

Sorosh Amini, a 21-year-old resident of Station Road, approached a 13-year-old schoolgirl in broad daylight on North End Road in Croydon, south London, in August 2024. He persistently engaged her in conversation despite her attempts to walk away, following her down the street towards an alleyway near the Whitgift Centre.

In the alleyway, Amini forcibly kissed the girl and attempted to put a cannabis joint into her mouth. He also mentioned being friends with someone who had recently stabbed a person in the area, heightening her fear that he might be armed with a knife. Amini then raped the schoolgirl before fleeing the scene on foot.

The Metropolitan Police launched an immediate investigation, utilising CCTV footage from the area and specially trained forensic dogs to place Amini at the scene. Amini left his home address just 24 hours after the offence, but phone data tracked his movements to Liverpool, approximately 250 miles away. He was arrested five days later in Liverpool.

Following a two-week trial at Croydon Crown Court, Amini was convicted of rape and sexual assault. On Friday, 27 June 2025, the court sentenced him to seven years in prison, describing him as a 'dangerous' paedophile. Additionally, he was issued with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future behaviour.

Detective Inspector Donnett Oseni, who led the investigation for the Metropolitan Police, stated: 'Amini’s attack on this vulnerable girl was predatory and calculated. He has demonstrated himself to be a dangerous sexual offender and this sentence prevents him from harming anyone else. I want to commend the victim for her courage in coming forward and reporting this offence to us. I hope today’s verdict will bring her and her family some semblance of closure.' A Metropolitan Police spokesman added that under the New Met for London Plan, the force is committed to tackling violence against women and girls, often perpetrated by predatory men like Amini.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts by the Metropolitan Police to protect vulnerable individuals in London, with the swift use of technology and resources leading to Amini's capture and conviction.
