Offence Summary

Nadeem Aslam admitted to possessing and supplying drugs, including permitting premises for drug supply, in connection with the Newcastle grooming gang's operations that facilitated the sexual abuse of vulnerable girls.

Full Description

Nadeem Aslam, aged 43 from Belle Grove West in Newcastle, was implicated in the drug-related aspects of the grooming gang investigated under Operation Shelter by Northumbria Police. The gang targeted vulnerable teenagers, using alcohol and mephedrone to groom and pass them among members for sexual exploitation, primarily in Newcastle's West End.

Aslam admitted to possessing cannabis and was convicted of two counts of supplying drugs, one count of possessing drugs, and one count of permitting premises to be used for drug supply. These offences directly supported the gang's ability to manipulate victims. The case culminated in convictions for 17 men and one woman at Newcastle Crown Court, with sentencing by Judge Penny Moreland in September 2017.

Reporting from the Belfast Telegraph on 5 September 2017 highlighted Aslam's role among the group scheduled for sentencing that week. The investigation's depth was evident in tactics like paying a convicted rapist £10,000 for intelligence, revealing the gang's structured approach to sexual abuse through drug facilitation.
