Offence Summary

Luke Jarrett, a paedophile from Wisbech, was jailed for possessing and distributing indecent images of children after he drove recklessly into oncoming traffic on the day he was due to appear in court for these offences.

Full Description

Luke Jarrett, a 26-year-old resident of Lords Lane in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on 5 November 2025 for a series of child sex offences involving indecent images.

Jarrett had been arrested in 2024 when Cambridgeshire Police seized his electronic devices, uncovering 703 indecent images of children, 771 related videos, 638 extreme pornographic images, and 288 indecent photographs of a child that he had distributed. He was released on bail pending his first court appearance at Cambridge Magistrates' Court on 22 September 2025. However, on that morning, concerns arose for his welfare when he failed to attend, and officers spotted him driving a green Jeep Cherokee on the A47 near Thorney Toll towards Wisbech at around 9am.

Jarrett refused to stop for police, accelerating aggressively and overtaking vehicles recklessly by veering into the path of oncoming traffic, reaching speeds of 64mph in a 50mph zone. The pursuit ended when officers made tactical contact with his vehicle, causing it to swerve across the road, roll onto its side, and come to a stop. Video footage captured the dramatic incident, highlighting the danger posed to other road users.

Jarrett pleaded guilty to one count of distributing an indecent image of a child, three counts of making an indecent image of a child, two further counts of distributing an indecent photograph of a child, possessing an extreme pornographic image, and dangerous driving. In addition to his custodial sentence, he received an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, was required to sign the Sex Offenders' Register, and was disqualified from driving for five years and four months.

Detective Constable Simon Law, who led the investigation for Cambridgeshire Police, stated: 'Creating indecent images and then sharing them may not be a physical offence but it still harms the child victims. Jarrett clearly did not want to face justice for these crimes, which may lie behind his reckless and dangerous driving that endangered innocent members of the public on the day of his first court appearance.' The case underscores the severe impact of online child exploitation and the determination of authorities to pursue offenders.
