Offence Summary

Anthony Crozier arranged to sexually abuse two young children by sending explicit messages to what he believed was another individual with access to them, but was actually communicating with an undercover officer. He was sentenced to six years in prison for commissioning a child sex offence.

Full Description

Anthony Crozier, a 54-year-old man from Seaham, engaged in online communications where he believed he was arranging to sexually abuse two young children—a 7-year-old girl and a young boy. Unbeknownst to him, he was interacting with an investigating officer from the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU).

Crozier sent sexually explicit messages detailing his intentions to abuse the children, demonstrating his predatory mindset. These exchanges were part of a sting operation conducted by NEROCU in collaboration with the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU). The operation highlighted the effectiveness of inter-regional partnerships in tackling child sex offences.

On 29 July 2024, Crozier was arrested following the culmination of the investigation. He was subsequently charged with the commission of a child sex offence. Appearing at Durham Crown Court on 29 August 2024, Crozier pleaded guilty to the charge.

Sentencing took place on 12 November 2025 at Teesside Crown Court, where Crozier received a custodial sentence of six years, with an additional two years on extended licence. A sexual harm prevention order was imposed, and he was required to register as a sex offender for life. This outcome underscores the authorities' commitment to protecting vulnerable children from sexual predators.

NEROCU Detective Constable Georgina Lewis commented after the sentencing: 'This has been an excellent example of our dedication to protect those vulnerable and at risk in our communities. It’s also been a great display of the strong partnership working we have across the ROCU network and the resources at our disposal to pursue offenders like Crozier – and our work will continue.' The case was reported by the Sunderland Echo on 13 November 2025.
