A 63-year-old man from Hull, Ken Chik, has been sentenced to 33 years in jail following his conviction on multiple counts of serious sexual offences. The case, which came to trial at Hull Crown Court, highlighted the horrific abuse inflicted on victims over an extended period.
Chik, residing on Endymion Street in Hull, appeared in court on Wednesday, 29 September, facing charges related to sexual abuse. After a four-week trial, he was found guilty of 28 offences. These included rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, sexual activity with a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, and cruelty. The offences involved multiple victims, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behaviour that caused significant harm.
The court heard evidence detailing the extent of the abuse, which underscored the severity of Chik's actions. Prosecutor statements emphasised the bravery of the victims in coming forward, which was crucial in securing the convictions. As reported by Neighbourhood Network Hull, the sentencing reflects the gravity of the crimes committed against vulnerable individuals, particularly children.
In connection with Chik's offences, a 37-year-old woman, Tracy Choi, was also convicted of six related offences, including rape and attempted rape. While the primary focus of the sentencing was on Chik, the joint involvement illustrates the collaborative nature of the abuse. Humberside Police, through Detective Constable Anna Bullock, commended the victims' courage, stating: “Although the lengthy sentence is welcomed, it still does not take away the pain he caused his victims. I hope that this sentencing can provide his victims with some comfort in knowing that they, and nobody else, will come to harm because of this predator.”
The case was investigated and prosecuted with the involvement of Humberside Police, who played a key role in gathering evidence and supporting the victims throughout the process. This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat sexual exploitation in the community.
