Offence Summary

Damian Sidor was convicted of one count of rape following a sustained attack on a woman in Banbury and was sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment.

Full Description

Damian Sidor was one of three men sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on 16 May 2024 for participating in the 'abhorrent and sustained' rape of a woman in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The incident took place between approximately 10pm on 12 April 2023 and midday on 13 April 2023 near Banbury railway station, involving prolonged sexual and physical assaults, including multiple rapes against the victim.

Sidor, who has no fixed abode, was found guilty of one count of rape by unanimous verdict. He was acquitted of one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape. The trial concluded on 15 October 2023, establishing Sidor's role in the violent attack alongside his co-defendants, Patryk Kubacz and Jaroslaw Szklarski.

The victim endured threats with a knife and was forced to procure drugs for the offenders before managing to escape and alert a member of the public, who contacted the police. Officers from Thames Valley Police responded promptly, safeguarding the victim and arresting the three men.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Charis Fernley of Thames Valley Police stated: 'This was a truly shocking, abhorrent and sustained attack on a young woman, who was targeted by three men.' She praised the victim's courage throughout the process and affirmed that the offenders would face long prison terms.

Sidor received an 11-year custodial sentence, along with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and lifelong registration on the sex offenders' register. This case reflects the police force's dedication to addressing sexual offences effectively.
