Offence Summary

Kamar Jamil was convicted for his involvement in the Oxford gang's child sexual exploitation, including rape and abuse of girls. He was jailed for life with a minimum term of 12 years.

Full Description

Kamar Jamil was among seven men sentenced for orchestrating a paedophile ring in Oxford that subjected young girls to horrific sexual abuse from 2004 to 2012. The victims, aged 11 to 15 and often in care, were groomed with drugs and alcohol, raped repeatedly, sold as prostitutes, and trafficked, enduring torture and degradation.

Aged 27 and from Oxford, Jamil received a life sentence with a minimum of 12 years at the Old Bailey. Judge Peter Rook described the collective crimes as 'of the utmost depravity,' targeting vulnerable underage girls. The 18-week trial detailed 43 charges across six victims, whose testimonies were pivotal despite the emotional toll.

Failings by Thames Valley Police and social services were laid bare, with reports ignored since 2006 until a focused investigation in 2010. Simon Morton, the lead detective, vowed to continue targeting such networks, noting an ongoing probe involving over 50 men and potentially 50 victims. He urged, 'Be under no doubt, we are coming for you.'

The CPS, through Baljit Ubhey, stressed that coercion nullifies consent and prioritised exploitation cases with new protocols. The judge praised the victims' bravery, hoping their evidence would deter others and prompt authorities to act, amid calls for systemic reforms following similar scandals.
