Razwan Razaq

Razwan Razaq, 30, from Oxford Street, Rotherham, received an 11-year custodial sentence at Sheffield Crown Court after being found guilty of two counts of sexual activity with a child. The convictions related to two different teenage girls, aged between 12 and 16, whom Razaq groomed for sexual purposes in the Rotherham area. The court described him and his co-defendants as 'sexual predators' exploiting vulnerable young girls.

The jury heard evidence of how Razaq developed relationships with the victims, leading to sexual encounters in locations such as cars and parks. Authorities became involved after observing changes in the girls' behaviour, prompting an investigation into the grooming activities. Razaq was one of five men convicted in the case, with the judge stressing the need to send a clear message against such predatory behaviour.

Judge Peter Kelson QC remarked on the defendants' emotional displays during sentencing, saying, 'The message must go out loud and clear that our society will not tolerate sexual predators preying on children.' As a result of his offences, Razaq has been added to the sex offenders register. This case underscores the systemic issues of child sexual exploitation in South Yorkshire, prosecuted by South Yorkshire Police.

The trial at Sheffield Crown Court revealed the manipulative tactics used by the offenders, who convinced the girls they were in genuine relationships, masking the exploitative nature of their actions.
