Offence Summary

Jake Wales was caught with 1,950 indecent images of children, including over 500 of the most serious category A type, and admitted to multiple sex offences. He was jailed for 14 months at Nottingham Crown Court.

Full Description

Jake Wales, a 28-year-old man from Nottingham, was arrested following a police report of an indecent photograph being downloaded at a property on Alfreton Road in the city. The incident came to light in November 2024 when officers from Nottinghamshire Police investigated the address where Wales was residing.

Upon searching Wales's mobile phone and other devices, authorities discovered a substantial collection of child sex abuse material. The haul included more than 500 category A images—the most severe classification—along with over 350 category B images and more than 1,100 category C images, totalling 1,950 indecent photographs and videos depicting appalling sexual abuse against young children.

Wales confessed to his offences during his interview with police. He later appeared at Nottingham Crown Court, where he admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of a child, possessing extreme pornographic images, and possessing a prohibited image of a child. On Thursday, January 29, 2026, he was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

  • The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order on Wales to restrict his future behaviour and protect the public.
  • Detective Constable Oliver Pemberton of Nottinghamshire Police commented: 'Wales was found in possession of still and moving images of appalling sexual abuse committed against children who are too young to understand or to consent to what is happening to them. He may not have carried out the abuse himself but directly contributed to it with each image or video he downloaded or viewed.'
  • DC Pemberton added: 'I am pleased he has now been jailed and hope this sentence serves as a warning to others about acting in the same way.'

The case was reported by Birmingham Live, highlighting the Midlands connection through the initial download report, though the offences and sentencing occurred in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. Wales, of Cheltenham Street, Nottingham, contributed to the demand for such material, exacerbating the harm to child victims.
