Offence Summary

Graeme Goodsir, a serial child abuser from Meriden, was jailed for eight years and three months for committing 15 historical sexual offences against a young girl starting from the age of seven. He pleaded guilty and will be placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Full Description

A 61-year-old man from Meriden, Solihull, has been sentenced to eight years and three months in prison for a series of historical child sex offences committed against a young girl over several years, beginning when she was just seven years old.

Graeme Goodsir, residing on Alspath Road in Meriden, was described by West Midlands Police as a 'serial abuser' following his conviction. The offences came to light last year when the victim, now an adult, courageously reported the abuse to authorities. She provided a detailed account to specialist officers from the Public Protection Unit, who launched a thorough investigation to gather evidence and support her throughout the process.

On 10 January 2020, Goodsir appeared in court and pleaded guilty to 15 counts of historical sexual offences. The court heard how he had abused the girl repeatedly during her childhood, causing significant trauma that she relived during the legal proceedings. His guilty plea helped bring the case to a swift conclusion, ensuring justice was served.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Goodsir has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 15 years. These measures aim to protect the public from further harm by restricting his activities and monitoring his behaviour post-release.

DC Karen Jones from the Public Protection Unit commended the victim's bravery, stating: 'It took a great deal of courage for the woman to speak out and I commend her bravery. We supported her throughout the investigation and with her cooperation have been able to bring a dangerous sexual predator to justice.' The case underscores the importance of coming forward, with police emphasising their commitment to supporting victims of historical abuse.
