Full Description

Anthony Blewett, a 65-year-old man from Selborne Road in Barbourne, Worcester, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after being found guilty of nine child sex offences spanning more than 20 years. His crimes involved the indecent assault of young victims, causing profound and lasting trauma.

The offences began in 2002, with Blewett targeting vulnerable children and subjecting them to repeated sexual abuse. One victim, now an adult woman, provided a powerful victim impact statement in court, describing how Blewett's actions had driven her to contemplate suicide. The case only came to light years later through courageous reports from the survivors, prompting a thorough investigation by West Mercia Police.

Blewett was arrested and charged with nine counts of indecent assault. Following a trial at Worcester Crown Court, he was unanimously convicted on all charges. Sentencing occurred in 2025, where the judge highlighted the premeditated and predatory nature of the abuses, stating, 'Your actions have devastated lives and robbed these individuals of their childhood innocence.' The court imposed a 14-year custodial sentence, reflecting the severity and duration of the offending.

West Mercia Police commended the victims' bravery in coming forward, with a spokesperson saying, 'Cases like this demonstrate the long shadow cast by historical sexual abuse, but also our commitment to seeking justice no matter how much time has passed.' Worcester News covered the proceedings, noting the challenges in prosecuting decades-old crimes and the importance of support for survivors. Blewett was also placed on the sex offenders' register, ensuring monitoring upon any future release.
