Offence Summary

A 61-year-old man from Minehead who admitted possessing nearly 300 indecent images of children and received a suspended prison sentence.

Full Description

Paul Geldard, aged 61, of Alcombe, Minehead, appeared before Taunton Crown Court where he admitted three charges relating to the possession of indecent images of children.

The court heard that police had seized devices from Geldard containing a total of 288 indecent images of children. These comprised 41 category A images (the most serious category), 48 category B images, and 199 category C images. The images had been obtained between 7 December 2019 and 8 March 2024.

Judge Anna Richardson sentenced Geldard to a total of eight months' imprisonment, suspended for two years. She also ordered that he register with the police as a sex offender for the next ten years and imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from having any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16.

The case was prosecuted by Avon and Somerset Police. Geldard had previously pleaded guilty to the charges at an earlier hearing.
