Offence Summary

Paul Long, a security guard at a fairground, sexually assaulted two teenage girls by slapping and groping them during separate incidents on the same evening.

Full Description

Paul Long, 61, from Huddlestone Close, Woodchurch, Birkenhead, assaulted two teenage girls while working as a security guard at a temporary funfair on Birkenhead Road in Seacombe on 28 March 2019. Described as 'large and physically imposing', Long slapped the bottom of a 15-year-old girl while pretending to administer first aid, laughed in her face, and followed her. He then trapped a 14-year-old on a Waltzer ride, grabbed her bottom, and squared up to her father when confronted.

The victims endured the ordeal of giving evidence at trial, where Long was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault at Liverpool Crown Court. Long had a prior conviction for causing death by careless driving in 2017, resulting in a community order.

Sentenced to eight months in prison, the court highlighted his predatory actions in a public setting. The Liverpool Echo reported on 17 July 2021, focusing on how Long exploited his role to target vulnerable children.
