William Aderayo Adesanya, a 25-year-old man from Penarth, has been imprisoned for a series of violent sexual offences committed against an escort in Cardiff. The case, investigated by South Wales Police, culminated in a sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court on 3 November 2025, where Adesanya was found guilty of three counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of intentional strangulation.
According to details released by South Wales Police, Adesanya attended the victim's home address in Cardiff under the pretence of using her services as an escort. Once there, he subjected her to a brutal assault, strangling her until she lost consciousness. While she was unconscious, Adesanya sexually assaulted and raped her on multiple occasions. He further violated her privacy by filming the acts on his mobile phone, capturing the evidence of his crimes.
The court imposed a severe sentence of 16 years' imprisonment, accompanied by an extended licence period of six years to ensure ongoing monitoring upon release. In addition to the custodial term, Adesanya was made subject to an indefinite restraining order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which prohibits him from having any contact with sex workers. These measures aim to protect vulnerable individuals from similar exploitation in the future.
Following the sentencing, the victim expressed her gratitude to the authorities in a statement to South Wales Police: 'I would like to say thank you to DC Nick Young and to everyone else that has helped and supported me through the process of the trial and sentencing of my attacker. I am so incredibly grateful for him and all that he has done, he has shown me an incredible amount of patience, kindness, and compassion throughout this entire traumatic process. This has been a long, emotional journey and I would not have been able to do it without the support of everyone involved. Thank you all so very much. From the bottom of my heart.'
Detective Constable Nick Young, the officer in charge of the case, commended the victim's courage, stating: 'The victim demonstrated exceptional bravery throughout the process and hopes that her story can encourage others who are suffering to report matters. South Wales Police will be relentless in our pursuit of offenders and those who target the vulnerable in our communities.' The incident underscores the dangers faced by sex workers and highlights the police commitment to prosecuting those who perpetrate sexual violence.
