Full Description

A former Birmingham taxi driver, Peter King, aged 72, has been convicted of 15 serious sex offences against three young girls in Birmingham during the 1990s and early 2000s. The offences, which included multiple counts of rape and indecent assault, came to light following a long and complex investigation by West Midlands Police’s Public Protection Unit (PPU). King, who resided in a flat in Highgate, Birmingham at the time, used his position as a black cab driver to lure and transport his victims, who were aged between six and 15.

The court at Birmingham Crown Court heard harrowing details of how King systematically groomed the girls by exploiting their personal circumstances. He offered them 'pocket money and gifts', purchased clothing and food, and took them on swimming trips, day trips, and even holidays to build trust and portray himself as a caring figure. One of the victims became pregnant by King at the age of 15 and subsequently underwent a termination. The jury delivered the guilty verdict on Friday, 31 October 2025, after considering the evidence presented.

Detective Inspector Liz Weston, from the PPU and the investigating officer, described the case as particularly grave. 'This has been a long and complex investigation into the abuse of young girls who were groomed by King. He preyed upon them when they were at their most vulnerable,' she stated. 'He took advantage of their own personal circumstances and gave them pocket money, bought them gifts, clothing and food and took them on day trips and holidays. He tried to portray that he was a good man who cared for them, but the jury saw through those lies.' DI Weston also praised the bravery of the victims, now adults, who came forward years later to share their stories and aid the investigation.

Following the conviction, King, now of Malin Close in Southampton, was remanded into custody. He awaits sentencing on 12 January 2026 at Birmingham Crown Court. The case underscores the long-term impact of historical child sex offences and the importance of victims speaking out, as encouraged by the police.
