Offence Summary

Nueza Cepeda admitted to producing an instrument to be used with the intent to cause a miscarriage by assisting in procuring abortion drugs for Stuart Worby.

Full Description

Nueza Cepeda, a 39-year-old woman from Dereham, Norfolk, has admitted to a charge of producing an instrument intended to cause a miscarriage in connection with the case involving Stuart Worby. Her involvement centred on facilitating the procurement of abortion medications used to poison a pregnant woman without her consent. Cepeda is due to be sentenced following her guilty plea at Norwich Crown Court.

As part of the plot, Cepeda made a telephone appointment at a gynaecology clinic in London, posing as a pregnant woman who already had a family and wished to terminate the pregnancy. She was warned by the doctor that it was a criminal offence to give the drugs to someone else and informed of the risks, including heavy bleeding, significant pain, and potential permanent damage to the womb between 10 to 24 weeks of gestation. The pills, Mifepristone and Misoprostol, were delivered to Cepeda on 2 August 2022.

  • Cepeda met Worby and Wayne Finney at the George Hotel in Dereham, where security footage captured her placing a white envelope containing the drugs on a bench for Worby to collect.
  • Her actions directly aided Worby in obtaining the medication used to induce the miscarriage.
  • The case forms part of a broader investigation into the non-consensual administration of abortion drugs, highlighting the dangers of such misuse.

Norfolk police, led by detective chief inspector Duncan Woodhams, conducted a thorough investigation that uncovered the chain of events linking Cepeda's role to the overall offence. While Worby was convicted of sexual assault and administering poison, and Finney was acquitted, Cepeda's admission underscores her complicity in the procurement process. The victim suffered immense physical and emotional trauma, including a forced miscarriage and subsequent surgery.

Cepeda's sentencing is pending, with the court set to determine the appropriate penalty for her involvement in this unprecedented case.
