Offence Summary

A Barnsley man who manipulated young girls into sending indecent images and possessed thousands of indecent images of children.

Full Description

A Barnsley man, Luke Taylor, was sentenced to five years and four months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, 5 June 2026, for a series of sexual offences against young girls.

Taylor, 43, of Lamb Lane, Monk Bretton, Barnsley, had engaged in sexual communication with children as young as nine and coerced them into sending indecent images. In some cases, he threatened to share the images if they did not comply with his demands for more.

His arrest on 5 March 2023 came after officers executed a warrant at his home. An examination of his electronic devices uncovered thousands of indecent images of children, including:

  • 698 Category A images – the most extreme classification
  • 212 Category B images
  • 1,817 Category C images

Several victims disclosed what was happening to family members, who then contacted the police. Taylor denied the offences or refused to comment during four police interviews, but later pleaded guilty to multiple charges. These included three counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child, one count of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, one count of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of causing a child under 13 to watch a sexual act, three counts of making an indecent photograph of a child, and two counts of distributing an indecent photograph of a child.

Passing sentence, Judge Kelly told Taylor: "You have robbed your victims of their innocence due to your selfish, unnatural desires."

In addition to the prison term, Taylor was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective Constable Jess Clark, the investigating officer, said: "Taylor’s offending was absolutely abhorrent, he used a social media platform to coerce and threaten young children into sending him indecent images, causing them pain for his own gratification. The examination of his devices uncovered offending spanning from September 2022 to September 2024, and thousands of indecent images of children. The volume of his offending is shocking, and I am glad that he has been caught and has been jailed for his disturbing crimes."
