Offence Summary

Jakob Ireson raped a woman while she slept and subjected another woman to a violent physical assault involving punches, kicks, slaps, headbutts, and strangulation.

Full Description

Jakob Ireson, a 31-year-old man from Sandringham Road in Walton, Peterborough, was sentenced to a total of ten years in prison for committing serious sexual and violent offences against two women in Cambridgeshire.

The first incident occurred in October 2023, when Ireson visited a home in Peterborough for drinks. During the evening, he made unwanted advances towards a woman present at the gathering. Although he initially left the house, he returned later that night and entered the woman's bedroom while she was asleep. She awoke to discover Ireson raping her, an act that demonstrated his predatory behaviour and complete disregard for her consent and safety.

Approximately a year later, while on police bail for the rape charge, Ireson committed further offences against another woman. Despite an active 18-year restraining order prohibiting him from approaching her home, Ireson let himself into the property uninvited. He quickly became verbally abusive and then launched a brutal physical attack on the victim. He punched her in the face multiple times, threw her phone at the television causing damage, and strangled her for around 30 seconds. The victim later reported additional assaults during the incident, including kicks, slaps, and a headbutt, which left her with visible facial injuries. Ireson also caused further criminal damage during the confrontation.

Ireson's trial for the rape took place at Cambridge Crown Court, where he was found guilty on 1 August 2024. On 30 January 2025, he received his sentence: eight years' imprisonment for the rape, to be served consecutively with an additional two years for the charges of actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, harassment by breaching the restraining order, and two counts of criminal damage. The court highlighted the violent and predatory nature of his actions.

Detective Constable Kara Halls, who led the investigation for Cambridgeshire Constabulary, stated: “Ireson’s actions were violent, predatory, and showed a complete disregard for the safety and wellbeing of the women involved. The bravery of the victims in coming forward has ensured he is now behind bars and unable to harm anyone else. I hope this sentence provides them with some sense of justice and reassurance.” The case underscores the police force's commitment to pursuing dangerous offenders and supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
