Full Description

A Brighton man, Sam Soyoye, aged 32, from Windsor Street, has been sentenced to ten years in prison following his conviction for serious sexual offences against two women. The case, handled by Sussex Police, highlights the force's commitment to tackling sexual violence in the community.

The offences occurred in separate incidents in 2024. In June 2024, Soyoye invited a woman back to his address in the early hours after meeting her in Brighton, where he raped her. Later, in September 2024, he invited another woman, unknown to the first victim, to his address and sexually assaulted her. These attacks underscore the vulnerability of individuals in social settings and the predatory nature of the crimes.

Soyoye was arrested following a thorough investigation by the Brighton Investigations Unit of Sussex Police. He was charged and stood trial at Lewes Crown Court, where on 3 September 2025, he was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. Remanded in custody, he appeared for sentencing on 6 November 2025 at the same court, receiving a ten-year custodial sentence to be served concurrently for all counts.

Detective Aimee Collier from the Brighton Investigations Unit commented on the case: 'This sentencing reflects the seriousness of the crimes and the lasting impact they have had on the victims. We would like to commend the bravery of both women in coming forward and supporting the investigation.' Sussex Police's investigation demonstrates their dedication to pursuing justice in rape and sexual assault cases, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable.

The victims, who did not know each other, showed remarkable courage throughout the process, contributing to Soyoye's conviction. This outcome serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting such crimes to enable support and prosecution.
