Dominic Legg sexually abused three young girls over a four-year period, committing rapes and sexual assaults starting when he was around 12 years old. His initial sentence of five years and nine months was increased to eight years following a successful Court of Appeal challenge.

Full Description

A perverted teenager from Hartlepool, Dominic Legg, has had his custodial sentence extended after a successful appeal by prosecutors, reflecting the severe nature of his sexual offences against three young girls.

Legg, now 19, carried out a series of sexual assaults and rapes on victims aged from under ten to 15 years old over a four-year period. The abuse began when Legg himself was underage, around the age of 12. The case came to light and was heard at Teesside Crown Court in November, where Legg was initially sentenced to five years and nine months' detention in a young offenders’ institute. However, following a challenge at the Court of Appeal on 12th February, his sentence was increased to eight years in custody.

Detective Inspector Lou Sproson from Hartlepool CID welcomed the decision, stating: “I am pleased that Legg’s sentence has been increased to reflect the nature and severity of his offending. This is welcomed by the officers who investigated the case and by the victims and their families.” The investigating force was Cleveland Police, who provided images and details in the coverage.

  • Legg was found guilty of 13 charges, including counts of rape, sexual assault, and engaging in sexual activity with a child.
  • The victims suffered profound trauma, as outlined in impact statements read in court.

One victim described the devastating effects: “What Dominic Legg did to me physically and mentally broke me. This has had a massive impact on my life and I will hate myself forever for not doing anything sooner. I was a vulnerable little girl.” Another added: “I have had to go through therapy because of what happened to me. I could not even speak the words of what Dominic did to me. I fear every day that it will happen to me again and find it hard to adjust to normal life.”

In addition to the extended custodial term, Legg, of Harrow Street in Hartlepool, will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life. He was also issued with indefinite restraining orders prohibiting contact with the victims. The case underscores the long-term consequences of child sexual exploitation and the justice system's response to such grave offences.
