Offence Summary

Brynley Hocking was jailed for attempting to groom a 13-year-old girl online, believing her to be a child, while in possession of indecent images of children and extreme pornographic material.

Full Description

Brynley Hocking, a 45-year-old man from Portsmouth, engaged in online communications aimed at grooming a supposed 13-year-old girl for sexual purposes. Unbeknownst to him, the individual he was interacting with was an undercover officer from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary. During these exchanges, Hocking explicitly stated his intention to meet the child for sex, leading to his arrest.

Upon his arrest, authorities discovered that Hocking was in possession of extreme pornographic material, including content involving bestiality, as well as indecent images of children, some depicting victims as young as two years old. These materials provided further evidence of his involvement in serious sexual offences related to child exploitation.

On 22 December 2025, Hocking appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of arranging and facilitating sexual activity with a child, attempting to form sexual communications, and possession of indecent images of children. He was sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison and will be required to register on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

A police spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary commented on the case, stating: 'The fact remains there have been in this investigation numerous children whom have been seriously sexually abused, harmed, and exploited, in the indecent images that Hocking possessed. Online offending around indecent images of children is a crime, each image represents a child that has been abused.' This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat online grooming and the distribution of child abuse imagery within the United Kingdom.
