Full Description

Christopher Evans, a resident of Clock Face Road in Clock Face, St Helens, Merseyside, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, 13 December 2024, following his conviction for a series of depraved child sex offences. The court heard that Evans had pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was subsequently found guilty of sexual assaults related to the same victim.

The offences occurred between 2023 and 2024, involving the sexual abuse of a child, which Detective Constable Robyn Reid of Merseyside Police described as 'utterly depraved'. In her statement, DC Reid emphasised the severity of the crimes, stating: 'Evans’ offences were utterly depraved and I’m sure anyone reading this will feel disgust and anger that someone could do this to a child. This was a shocking case and the sexual abuse of children is one of the most heinous crimes we tackle as a police force.'

Evans received an overall sentence of 18 years, comprising a 12-year custodial term and an extended six-year licence period. The sentencing was welcomed by Merseyside Police, who highlighted their commitment to protecting children from sexual exploitation. The case was investigated by the force's dedicated Child & Criminal Sexual Exploitation Team, underscoring the ongoing efforts to bring perpetrators of such crimes to justice.

The victim in this case suffered significant and long-lasting impacts from the abuse, as noted by DC Reid. Evans' actions were carried out in St Helens, within the jurisdiction of Merseyside Police, and the proceedings took place entirely within the UK legal system.
