Philip Young

Philip Young, a 49-year-old white British national, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court in Wiltshire on Tuesday, accused of drugging and raping his ex-wife, Joanne Young, over a period spanning from 2010 to 2023. He faced 56 charges, encompassing multiple counts of rape and administering a substance with intent to stupefy or overpower his 48-year-old former spouse, who has waived her right to anonymity.

During the hearing, Young, dressed in dark blue jeans and a black zip-up jumper, was not required to enter any pleas. He informed magistrates that he did not wish to indicate his plea to the charges. The court remanded him in custody, marking a significant development in the case that has shocked the community in Swindon and surrounding areas.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2010 and 2023, highlighting a prolonged period of alleged abuse. Prosecutor Keith Ballinger described all related cases as 'inextricably linked' during the proceedings. Magistrate Martin Clarke committed Young's case to Swindon Crown Court, where he is scheduled to appear on 23 January 2026.
