Full Description

James Palmer, aged 26 from Torrisholme Square in Morecambe, received a three-year prison sentence for participating in the sexual abuse of a vulnerable 14-year-old girl. Together with co-offender Thomas Bates, Palmer carried out repeated sexual assaults on the victim over a one-month period, culminating in additional physical violence when the girl was burnt with a cigarette.

Lancashire Police investigated the matter after reports emerged, uncovering a pattern of exploitation targeting the young victim. The assaults occurred in various locations, with the perpetrators taking advantage of the girl's vulnerability. Palmer was apprehended as part of the joint operation that led to both men's arrests.

At Preston Crown Court in March 2025, Palmer admitted to the charges of sexual assault against a child. The court heard harrowing details of the abuse, with the judge condemning the actions as cowardly and damaging. A spokesperson for Lancashire Police remarked after the sentencing: 'Cases like this underscore the importance of vigilance in safeguarding children from sexual predators in our communities.'

  • Offences: Sexual assault on a child under 16, and related assault charges.
  • Duration: Approximately one month of repeated incidents.
  • Impact: Severe psychological and physical effects on the victim.

This sentencing reflects Lancashire's zero-tolerance approach to child sex offences, ensuring that offenders like Palmer face significant consequences for their crimes.
