Full Description

Basharat Iqbal Khaliq, aged 44, was sentenced for severe sexual offences against a vulnerable child in Bradford committed between 2002 and 2004. The victim, aged 13 to 16 and in care, was subjected to multiple rapes and assaults as part of a broader pattern of exploitation by the group.

In the third trial ending on 11 June 2025, Khaliq was convicted of four counts of indecent assault and three counts of rape. The CPS Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, supported by West Yorkshire Police's investigation, presented evidence of the persistent and violent nature of the abuse across various locations.

Receiving 21 years' imprisonment on 3 October 2025 at Bradford Crown Court—the longest among the group—Khaliq's sentencing followed the lifting of reporting restrictions, bringing the case into the public eye. The victim's bravery was key to the convictions. As Martin McRobb, CPS Specialist Prosecutor, articulated: “The defendants... exploited her vulnerabilities for their own selfish sexual gratification... We are extremely grateful to her.” This prosecution highlights ongoing efforts to secure justice for historical child sex offences.
