Full Description

Soloman Sanyas, 46, from Wincobank Avenue in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, was sentenced to ten years in prison at Sheffield Crown Court after being found guilty of raping a woman in her own home. The incident occurred on 16 May 2021, when Sanyas unlawfully entered the victim's residence through a window, using garden furniture to gain access while she was out. The victim, who knew Sanyas, returned home earlier than expected and discovered him in a bedroom, leading to a verbal altercation.

Following the confrontation, Sanyas dragged the victim down the stairs and subjected her to rape in the living room. Detectives and forensic teams later confirmed the method of entry, highlighting the premeditated nature of the intrusion. Throughout the investigation, Sanyas intimidated the victim on multiple occasions and enlisted known associates to threaten her, aiming to deter police involvement.

The trial, which lasted a week at Sheffield Crown Court, concluded with Sanyas being convicted on all charges: rape, witness intimidation, and assault. Sentencing took place on Tuesday, 17 May 2022, where Judge [name not specified in article] imposed a ten-year custodial sentence. Additionally, Sanyas received a ten-year restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim.

PC Bernice O'Brien from the Sheffield Protecting Vulnerable People Team commended the victim's bravery, stating: "During this investigation the victim has showed great bravery throughout and I would like to commend her for continuing to ensure Sanyas receives the punishment he deserves. During the investigation Sanyas intimidated the victim on multiple occasions and had known associates threaten her to stop police intervention. By remaining strong she has ensured that Sanyas cannot harm her or anyone else. I am pleased Sanyas has received a lengthy custodial sentence." The case was reported by the Yorkshire Post on 18 May 2022, emphasising the trust in local news coverage since 1754.
