Offence Summary

Tommy Lee Allington, a former primary school teaching assistant, was sentenced to over 18 years in prison for possessing indecent images of children and sexually assaulting a child under 13.

Full Description

A 25-year-old former primary school teaching assistant from Swansea has been imprisoned for more than 18 years following convictions for serious child sex offences. Tommy Lee Allington was arrested at his home in Penlan, Swansea, on 28 April 2023, and subsequently pleaded guilty to 17 charges at a pretrial hearing in Swansea Crown Court.

The charges included possession of indecent images of children and the sexual assault of a child under 13. These offences came to light through an investigation led by South Wales Police, highlighting the disturbing nature of the crimes committed by someone in a position of trust within the education sector.

On 1 September 2023, Allington was sentenced to 18 years and eight months in prison, with an additional six years on licence. He was also ordered to be placed on the sex offenders' register for life. The sentencing reflects the severity of the offences and the need to protect vulnerable children from such exploitation.

Detective Constable Amanda Jenkins, the investigating officer, commented: “Offences of this kind will always be shocking and disturbing, particularly when that person is in a position of trust. This will undoubtedly be difficult news for the local community but please be assured that our teams and partners have safeguarded and supported all those involved in the investigation. The victim’s family has shown incredible strength and courage throughout this case.”

Detective Inspector Sharon Gill-Lewis added further context on the importance of reporting such crimes: “I would like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of any form of sexual abuse to report it to us. Please be assured that we will always treat you with the utmost sensitivity and respect.” This case, reported by South Wales Police, underscores the ongoing efforts to combat child sexual abuse and ensure justice for victims.
