Full Description

A couple from Barry, David Crapper and Kim Crapper, have been imprisoned for a series of grave sexual offences against a child, as reported by South Wales Police. The abuse, which began when the victim was very young, spanned several years and involved multiple acts of sexual assault and exploitation.

David Crapper, aged 38, pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child under 13, sexual assault, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, rape, and causing a child to watch a sexual act. His wife, Kim Crapper, aged 39, admitted to sexual assault of a child under 13, sexual assault, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. The offences came to light when the victim confided in a friend about the couple's behaviour, leading to their arrest.

The sentencing took place at Cardiff Crown Court on 18 November 2022. The judge described the offences as 'hard to think of a more monstrous offence,' highlighting the severity of the crimes. Detective Inspector Christine Edmunds from South Wales Police commended the victim's bravery in coming forward, stating, 'We take all reports of sexual assault seriously and urge victims to come forward to report it, regardless of when it happened.' She further noted that neither defendant had shown any true remorse and that the police worked closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to secure justice for the victim.

The case underscores the long-term impact of child sexual abuse and the importance of reporting such crimes. South Wales Police's investigation was thorough, ensuring that the perpetrators faced appropriate consequences for their actions.
