Offence Summary

Mohammed Daqiq, a shop worker in Sydenham, lured a 16-year-old schoolgirl into the stockroom of Bargain World, locked the door, and sexually assaulted her despite her protests.

Full Description

Mohammed Daqiq, a 26-year-old shop worker at Bargain World in Sydenham, south London, was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolgirl. The incident occurred in June 2024 when the victim, a regular customer at the store, was walking past the premises. Daqiq, whom she knew from previous visits, invited her inside, leading her to the back storage room after locking the front door.

At Woolwich Crown Court, it was heard that Daqiq began by hugging the girl, ignoring her attempts to pull away. He tried to kiss her and then sexually assaulted her, forcing her hands onto his penis. Throughout the attack, the victim repeatedly told Daqiq that she did not want this and wished to leave, but he continued undeterred, leaving her traumatised. The court learned that Daqiq's actions were deliberate and predatory, exploiting his position of familiarity with the young girl.

Following his guilty plea, Daqiq was sentenced to an immediate three-year custodial term. Additionally, he faces deportation from the UK upon completion of his sentence. A spokesperson for Bargain World stated that the business and its owners had no involvement in the incident, emphasising that it was committed solely by the individual employee. The Metropolitan Police investigated the case, highlighting the severity of the sexual offence committed against a vulnerable minor.
