Full Description

Trevor Fernandes, a 41-year-old man from Swindon, Wiltshire, was sentenced to life imprisonment at Swindon Crown Court on 2 April 2026, following his admission to 67 serious sexual offences against children. The case stemmed from an international investigation led by the National Crime Agency (NCA), which uncovered a pattern of prolific and dangerous abuse after Fernandes' initial conviction in 2022.

The investigation began in 2020 when a 13-year-old girl from Garland, Texas, reported online grooming and blackmail to local police. She had been communicating with Fernandes for months, during which he coerced her into sending sexualised images of herself. His demands escalated, culminating in an instance where he ordered her to film herself sexually abusing another child and send the footage. Fernandes threatened to distribute the images to her friends and family if she refused. NCA officers arrested him at his home in Swindon on 6 December 2020, and forensic analysis of his electronic devices revealed the full extent of his abuse towards the girl.

In May 2022, Fernandes was convicted of 16 child abuse offences after a trial at Swindon Crown Court and sentenced to 14 years in prison. However, continued analysis of his devices by the NCA exposed further offending, prompting outreach to potential victims in the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, and Norway. This led to the identification of hundreds of victims, with ages ranging from one to 16 years old. The additional charges included blackmail, causing or inciting sexual activity with a child, malicious communication, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and making and distributing indecent images of children.

Fernandes admitted the 67 offences in November 2025. At sentencing, the judge described his crimes as 'some of the worst offending of this type to come before the court' and ordered him to serve a minimum of 13 years and eight months before being eligible for parole. Danielle Pownall, senior investigating officer at the NCA, called Fernandes 'a prolific and dangerous child sex offender' and praised the bravery of the initial Texas-based victim, stating: 'Without her courage, Fernandes would potentially still be sexually abusing children.' Safeguarding measures were implemented for all identified victims.

Jeanette Smith, specialist prosecutor in the Crown Prosecution Service's Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, highlighted the international collaboration: 'This case involved working with a number of international partners to demonstrate the scale of Fernandes's offences and to ensure he faces justice for everything he has subjected his victims to.' The NCA's efforts underscored the global reach of Fernandes' predatory behaviour, centred from his base in Swindon.
